Elite Access Control Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If your Elite gate keypad is dead, your receiver stopped reading remotes, or a new board just showed up and you need it wired into an existing Elite operator, we install Elite-compatible access control systems throughout Los Angeles, typically for $350 to $900 depending on the hardware and what’s already in the ground. Most callouts get diagnosed the same day, and we stock the most common Elite access boards, receivers, and keypad parts on the truck so you’re not waiting on a freight box from Texas. The usual discovery is simple: the keypad works sometimes, the phone app hasn’t connected in years, or a lightning strike near the San Fernando Valley took out the board and suddenly nothing opens except with a manual release.

Call (877) 610-2993

What we see most often in Los Angeles is not that the access control failed out of nowhere. It’s that the last installer took a shortcut: wire nuts where there should be weatherproofed connectors, a receiver mounted inside a metal box that kills the signal, or an access board wired into a 15-year-old transformer that’s delivering 11 volts instead of 24. We match the replacement to your Elite model, run the wiring clean, and stand behind it with our 90-Day Done Right Promise, in writing, on every job.

Which Elite Models This Applies To

Elite access control installation covers several series lines, and the compatibility rules matter. The Elite SL-3000 and SL-3000UL slide gate operators use a different access board than the Mirage and Legacy swing gate lines, and the older Elite MS series shares some wiring with SL models but not all. The easiest way to tell what you have is to read the label on the side of the control board inside the operator housing: the model number is printed there, and any Elite part we match starts with that sticker identification.

For Elite specifically, we lean OEM on the control board and receiver itself and consider quality aftermarket equivalents only for peripheral items like keypads and loop detector replacements. That’s not brand snobbery; it’s field experience. Elite’s board layouts and dip switch logic have changed across production runs, and an aftermarket board that looks right on paper can leave you chasing a phantom issue for two weekends. If your access control was installed between 2005 and 2015, there’s a decent chance it’s an SL-3000 or MS-series unit that runs on a 24VAC circuit and has a receiver that predates the current rolling-code standard; that’s worth knowing before you order anything online. We verify all of that before quoting any replacement.

We also stock and service access control parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls, so if your property has a mix of brands on different gates, we can address all of it in one visit.

Signs Your Elite Access Control Installation Is Failing

  • Keypad beeps but the gate doesn’t move. The keypad itself has power, but the relay it triggers isn’t closing. In Elite systems this is usually a wiring fault at the terminal block, not the keypad. If a previous installer used undersized wire or left connections exposed to Los Angeles moisture, the signal never reaches the board reliably.
  • Remotes work from ten feet but not from the street. The receiver antenna is either pinned behind a steel post, coiled inside the operator housing, or the receiver was never upgraded from the older fixed-code generation. We reposition and, when needed, replace the receiver with one matched to Elite’s current rolling-code remotes.
  • Gate opens on its own at random intervals. This is the one that scares people for good reason. On Elite units from the mid-2000s through early 2010s, we see this most often with an access board that’s picking up stray radio interference or has a relay that’s finally arcing internally. It needs to be addressed quickly because a gate that opens uncommanded is a security hole, not an inconvenience.
  • Phone entry system calls the house but doesn’t open the gate. The telephone entry unit is wired, powered, and ringing the home correctly, but the open command isn’t reaching the Elite operator. The problem is almost always at the intercom-to-board connection point: a corroded terminal, a loose pair, or a surge that partially cooked the access board’s relay output.
  • Breaker trips every time the gate closes. That’s not the access control itself; that’s usually the operator drawing too much amperage and the access board taking the blame. When we trace it, it’s commonly a bad capacitor or a motor that’s fighting a sagging gate. The access control may still need replacement afterward, but fixing only the board without finding the load problem means you’ll do it again.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Los Angeles, a full Elite access control installation, meaning the board, receiver, and keypad or phone entry wired cleanly into your existing operator, runs $350 to $900 for most residential properties. A standalone receiver replacement for a working board is the low end; a new telephone entry system integrated with an Elite slide operator on a long driveway is the high end. The range depends on three things: whether we’re working with the existing operator’s power supply or running a new one, how far the keypad or entry station is from the board, and whether prior work left usable wiring or we’re pulling fresh conductor through conduit.

Every quote includes the part, the labor, the weatherproofing, and the cleanup. The price you agree to before we start is the price on the invoice. We don’t add trip charges inside Los Angeles County, and we don’t book a truck roll without confirming the number with you first. Our 90-Day Done Right Promise covers the install: if something we touched fails in the first 90 days, we come back and make it right at no charge, no runaround.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things before calling: confirm the operator has power at the outlet, look for a tripped breaker, and check whether the keypad’s display is lit or dead. Those checks take five minutes and cost nothing. What you shouldn’t do is open the operator housing and start probing the board with a multimeter if you’re not comfortable with 24VAC systems and how a relay output is wired. A surprising number of DIY access control replacements end with a fried new board because the transformer output was wired backward or the common wire was landed on the wrong terminal. On an Elite unit, the board is the brain of the whole system, and a wiring mistake can also knock out the safety loop and the gate’s obstruction detection, meaning the gate can close on a car or a person without reversing.

If you’ve got the new part already and it’s still in the box, we’ll install it, test the full sequence including the safety edges, and tell you honestly if it’s the right match for your model. If it isn’t, we’ll tell you that too and quote the correct one. Call (877) 610-2993 and you’ll get a person, not a phone tree. We’ll set a window and keep it.
