Most days start before the coffee’s finished. You load the truck, pull up the work order, and by mid-morning you’re on a driveway somewhere figuring out why a gate that should have lasted twenty more years stopped moving at all. Sometimes it’s a sheared pin. Sometimes it’s a control board that got wet because somebody caulked the housing wrong three years ago. Either way, you’re the one who finds it, fixes it, and drives away knowing the thing works. That’s the job. No call centers, no upselling scripts, no pressure to swap parts that don’t need swapping. Hal Gatewood started this company in 2001 because he wanted to run jobs the right way, and that’s still the only way we know.
Who We’re Looking For
- Gate Repair Technician – The person who reads a gate like a doctor reads a patient: systematically, without guessing, and with enough patience to find the actual problem rather than the easiest-to-replace part.
- Gate Installer – Someone who can set a post plumb in hard caliche or rocky ground, hang a panel square, and still care about the finish detail when it’s 4 p.m. and they want to go home.
- Gate Motor and Opener Specialist – Comfortable inside a control board, familiar with LiftMaster, FAAC, Viking, Linear, Elite, BFT, DoorKing, Ghost Controls, or Mighty Mule – or ready to learn the ones they don’t know yet.
- Welder / Fabricator – Solid MIG or TIG hands who like working on-site rather than in a shop. The gate stays in the customer’s driveway; you bring the work to it.
- Access Control Installer – Detail-oriented with low-voltage wiring, keypads, intercoms, and entry systems. Comfortable explaining a new setup to someone who doesn’t want a tech lesson – just wants the thing to work.
- Dispatcher / Customer Service – A real person who answers a real phone and actually listens. Organized, calm when it’s busy, and capable of giving a customer a straight answer without reading from a script.

A Real Path From Apprentice to Lead
We don’t hire people to stay in one lane forever. If you come in as an apprentice and you’re sharp, you’ll move. You’ll ride with an experienced tech until the job makes sense, then you’ll run your own calls, then you’ll be the one teaching somebody else how to read a gate that’s failing at the hinge post. The path is there. How fast you move on it is mostly up to you.

Gates break. Motors wear out. Access systems need updating. None of that stops because the season changes or the economy dips. Gate repair and installation work is consistent in a way that a lot of trades aren’t, and we’ve got the call volume to keep good people busy. A live person answers every call we get, around the clock – which means we don’t miss work, and you don’t sit idle waiting for the phone to ring.
No Experience? Read This.
If you’ve spent years doing fencing, HVAC, irrigation, auto mechanics, or any other trade that requires you to diagnose before you act, more transfers than you’d think. Reading a problem instead of guessing at it, working outdoors in conditions that aren’t always ideal, knowing when a fastener is torqued right versus just tight enough to feel okay – that foundation is harder to teach than the gate-specific stuff.
What we teach is the gate side: how a linear actuator behaves differently from a swing arm, how to read a DoorKing board without frying it, how to set a welded frame in a post that isn’t perfectly plumb. In the first few months you’ll work alongside someone who’s done it long enough to explain not just what they’re doing but why. We don’t hand new people a manual and point them at a driveway. You’ll earn your calls as you’re ready for them, not before.
