Fast, Reliable Gate Repair Across Ontario

Gate repair in Ontario, CA usually runs between $180 and $750 depending on whether you’re dealing with a sagging hinge post, a dead operator, or a welded crack in a wrought iron frame. Most residential calls in Ontario are back to working order the same day we roll out, and we carry the common drive gears, control boards, and hinge hardware for Ontario’s housing stock on the truck. We’re Hal Gatewood’s crew, and we’ve been fixing gates the right way since 2001. If your gate is stuck, sagging, or making a sound it shouldn’t, call (877) 610-2993 and you’ll get a live person, not a voicemail.

Why Gatewood Fence & Gate Is Ontario’s Preferred Gate Repair Company

Hal Gatewood started this shop because he got tired of seeing gates “repaired” by guys who swapped a part, collected a check, and vanished. That still happens in Ontario, and we still get called to undo it. The difference with us is simple: the name on the invoice is the name on the shop, and the shop is right here in the Inland Empire, not three states away. You can drive to our published address and look Hal in the eye. That’s the oldest accountability there is.

We answer the phone 24 hours a day with a live person. Not a chatbot, not a dispatch queue. When you call about a gate dragging on a block wall off Euclid Avenue or an opener that quit in Ontario Ranch, you’re talking to someone who knows the area. Every job we do carries Hal’s 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it’s not done right, one call brings him back. No runaround, no fine print.

Take the $40 off any repair over $200, and the permanent 10% discount for seniors and veterans. We don’t charge a trip fee anywhere inside San Bernardino County. And if some other company handed you a written estimate that looks wrong, bring it to us for a free second opinion.

Our Gate Repair Services in Ontario

Automatic Gate Repair

Ontario’s got two very different automatic gate problems. Up in the 91762 ZIP, the Ontario Ranch master-planned community has thousands of homes hitting year five to seven, right when builder-grade operators start eating themselves. We see failed control boards and stripped plastic drive gears on those units constantly. The operator was never the problem. The problem was the builder spec’d a $300 unit and expected commercial duty from it.

Down along Milliken and Haven near the airport, the problem is different. Those fleet-yard and cold-storage gates run 50 to 100 open/close cycles a day under semi-truck weight. A residential or light-commercial operator will not survive that. We spec Class IV commercial operators for that kind of duty, and we replace loop detectors, limit switches, and drive gears before they cascade into a full rebuild. Hal and his crew weld on site, so the gate doesn’t leave your driveway or yard.

Hinge & Post Repair

In the older neighborhoods around Historic Downtown Ontario, the 1940s to 1980s tract homes all share the same gate setup: a wrought iron swing gate anchored into a CMU block wall. Two things kill those hinge posts. One is Ontario’s hard water, which is high in minerals imported from the Colorado River. That mineral content gets into the block, corrodes the steel hinge anchors, and the concrete spalls. The other is Santa Ana wind. Those dry northeast gusts put sustained lateral force on a swing gate, and every wind event works the hinge post back and forth until the block cracks.

A gate sags in the hinge post, not in the middle, and that’s where we start. Fix the panel without the post and you’ll fix it twice. We cut out the failed block section, pour new anchoring, and weld the hinges back true. The gate ends up stronger than the day it was hung.

Gate Realignment

Ontario summers regularly push past 105°F, and that heat does a number on slide gates. The metal expands, the rail tolerance shifts, and a gate that ran fine in March is dragging and grinding by July. Add in the dry summer and Santa Ana season, and you’ve got a recipe for a slide gate that jumps its rack or binds against the guide rollers. We realign the track, reset the end stops, and check the rack and pinion for worn sections. The realignment itself is usually under $200 unless we find a burned motor or cracked weld while we’re in there.

Electric Gate Repair

Electric gates in Ontario fail in patterns. Photocell eyes get fouled by dust from the dry winds. Battery backups die quietly after three or four years, and the first time the power blips, the gate forgets its limits and slams against the stop. Loop detectors on commercial entrances get cooked by truck traffic. We troubleshoot the whole circuit, not just the part that’s obviously dead, because swapping a board without fixing the wiring that killed it is how you get a callback in a month. Every electric gate repair we do is quoted and agreed before any work starts, and that price doesn’t change at the door.

Trusted Brands We Service in Ontario

We service just about every gate that shows up in Ontario: LiftMaster, FAAC, BFT, Linear, Viking, Ghost Controls, DoorKing, Elite, and Mighty Mule. The ones we see most in Ontario specifically are FAAC and BFT on the commercial corridors, Linear in the neighborhoods, and Viking on warehouse slide gates off Milliken and Haven. We keep the common drive gears, control boards, and safety edge components for those brands stocked in the van, which means most repairs don’t wait on a parts shipment. If you’ve got a broken opener and you’re not sure what brand it is, call (877) 610-2993 and we’ll identify it over the phone.

Common Gate Repair Problems We See in Ontario Homes

  • Builder-grade operators failing at year 5 to 7 in Ontario Ranch. The control board burns out or the plastic drive gear strips, and the gate just stops responding to remotes. This is the most predictable failure pattern we see in 91762, and it’s almost never worth patching the original unit.
  • Cracked hinge posts on CMU block walls near Historic Downtown. Decades of hard-water mineral intrusion and Santa Ana wind load split the block, and the gate starts dragging on the latch side. The fix is the post, not the panel.
  • Slide gates jumping the rack on hot days. Thermal expansion pushes the gate off tolerance, and the rack and pinion start wearing each other down. We hear “it only does it when it’s hot” constantly from warehouse managers off Haven Avenue.
  • Loop detectors failing under heavy commercial traffic. At 50+ cycles a day with loaded trucks driving over the loop, the wiring and electronics degrade fast. Undersized residential operators on those gates fail within 18 months, guaranteed.

Pricing for Gate Repair in Ontario, CA

Here’s what we tell people over the phone before we ever show up. A gate realignment in Ontario runs $150 to $350 depending on rail condition. Hinge and post repair starts around $250 for a single hinge and goes up to $900 if we’re cutting out and repouring block around a cracked post. Automatic gate repairs run $200 to $600 for control boards, receivers, and drive motors, while full operator replacement on a commercial slide gate is typically $1,800 to $4,500 for Class IV duty. Residential operator replacement is usually $900 to $1,600 installed. Every quote is written, signed, and agreed before we touch a bolt. No trip charge inside the county, $40 off any repair over $200, and a free second opinion on any written estimate you got from another company. Call (877) 610-2993 and we’ll give you a real number over the phone.
